Botulinum toxin causes a temporary decrease in the contraction of the muscles responsible for certain expression lines, glabella, lion’s wrinkle.
Anti-aging botulinum toxin injections make it possible for both men and women to experience a rejuvenated and radiant face.
Botulinum toxin injection technique
This anti-aging treatment consists of injecting very low doses of purified botulinum toxin directly into the muscles responsible for so-called expression lines. It thereby temporarily decreases the force of contraction of the muscles by acting on the neuromuscular junction (muscle relaxing action) and results in a natural smoothing of the facial features.
This treatment mainly targets expression lines :
- the forehead (lion’s wrinkle)
- crow’s feet
- the inter-eyebrow area (glabella)
One can achieve a smoother forehead and crow’s feet, which rejuvenates the face and softens the look.
Anti-aging injections of botulinum toxin are performed at specific points in appropriate doses, depending on the location and size of wrinkles and after careful skin marking. No anaesthesia is required.
Precautions before injecting botulinum toxin
Do not take anti-coagulant medication (aspirin, …) in the week before treatment.

Potential contraindications to anti-aging botulinum toxin injections
When the patient presents :
- Hypersensitivity or allergy to botulinum toxin or to any component of this compound
- An infection in the area where the injections will be made
- A generalized disorder of muscle activity such as myasthenia gravis or Eaton Lambert syndrome.
This medication is not to be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
After an anti-aging injection session of botulinum toxin
Spontaneous or pressure pain, a tingling sensation, a feeling of tension in the frontal or palpebral regions are possible, as well as headaches and itching. These sensations disappear quickly. Botulinum toxin injection points leave a transient erythema on the skin. A bruise may appear at the injection site and take a few days to disappear.
It is possible to observe a slight swelling of the eyelids during 24 to 48 hours, as well as a ptosis of the upper eyelid manifesting in a limited opening of the eyelid. This effect is rare and is always reversible.
Localised treatment may be prescribed by your doctor if necessary.
In rare cases, after a few days some patients report : dry eyes, sensitivity to light, double vision, temporary discomfort with lateral eye movement. Flu syndrome, nausea, a cutaneous reaction or hives are also possible. While the injections can be used to treat excessive sweating under the armpits, increased sweating has sometimes been observed in other areas.

The effects are almost immediate and the duration of effectiveness varies from one patient to another and from one session to another.
It is recommended to carry out your botulinum toxin injection sessions within an interval of 6 to 9 months. The effect becomes more long-lasting as the treatment progresses.
